Over 70 of the world’s leading manufacturers of sweets, confectionery and related machinery were in Hong Kong, exhibiting their latest product innovations and technology at the first-ever SweetsExpo Asia. Although the market for confectionery products in Asia varies as a result from differences in consumer behaviour and economic status, it is expected to pick up regionwide in the coming years.
With the closing of SweetsExpo, another major event has just begun: the 4th Asia-Pacific Conference on Algal Biotechnology. Organised by the University of Hong Kong under the auspices of the Asia-Pacific Society for Applied Phycology, this conference forms a platform for experts to exchange academic studies and builds a link with the industry and economy.
As addressed by Dr. Steven Chen, Conference Chairman, the 21st Century will be the Century of Biotechnology. Research development is the fundamental basis for further growth of any industry, even one as wide in scope as biotechnology. Work in and support for this field is thus essential.
