Ajinomoto Announces New President & CEO 
TOKYO, Mar 13, 2009 -- Ajinomoto Co., Inc. said that its board approved the nominations for a new president & chief executive officer at a directors' meeting on Friday. Effective end of June 2009, Masatoshi Ito will be president & CEO, succeeding Norio Yamaguchi, who will become chairman of the board. Both appointments are subject to approval at Ajinomoto Co., Inc. Ordinary General Shareholder's Meeting.

As 2009 marks the hundredth anniversary of the Ajinomoto Group, the company said it intends to reinforce the management system through new top management, particularly the appointments of Mr. Yamaguchi and Mr. Ito, and new corporate governance system.

To reinforce corporate governance, the group will implement the following:

  • Two outside directors, one of whom will be Uichiro Niwa, chairman of ITOCHU Corporation
  • The group chairman and two of outside directors will become the members of Nominating Advisory Committee and Compensation Advisory Committee.


Ajinomoto Group said it would start its "new century" by executing these management systems.
